I have been thinking a lot about this.
Do you ever feel like you’re constantly doing things, but none of it means anything? Like, you’re busy but not moving forward?
I’m with you. It’s something I’ve been struggling with too. Every day feels like I’m going through the motions — waking up, working, checking off tasks — but somehow, I’m left feeling empty at the end.
Here’s what’s actually going on: we’ve become experts at Living Someone Else’s Dream
You’re Avoiding What Actually Matters
Let’s get real here.
All of us do it. We fill up our days with meaningless tasks to avoid what really matters. Why? Because it’s easier to feel productive than to look people in the eye and face the mess.
For me, it’s the hard conversations, the ambitious projects, or the personal goals I’ve been putting off. The things that could change everything, but also scare me the most.
Ask yourself:
What scares you the most?
Are you just ticking boxes to gain a feeling of accomplishment?
What’s one thing you know you should do, but keep avoiding doing?
It’s uncomfortable, but avoiding the important things is killing your potential.
Illusion of Progress: More Does Not Necessarily Mean Better
Something that I, maybe you too, fell for.
I always believed there had to be a justification for more doing. More tasks, more projects, more hustle.
Here is the catch: more does not necessarily mean better.
We are always behind the idea of “more,” not wondering if it’s the right stuff.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Doing more would not solve the problem.
It doesn’t matter if it actually does anything at the time.
And sometimes, less can be more in terms of real progress.
“Busy is the new lazy,” as they say.
And it’s true — we’re confusing activity with achievement.
Is Someone Else Living Your Dream?
Now, let’s get down to the main point.
Are these your goals or someone else’s idea of success? It took me plenty of time to discover half of it wasn’t for me but for others’ approval.
You might have noticed that, too.
We run after other people’s dreams. We get things done that don’t make us happy. All because of conditioning; that is, being taught how to live a life based on majority approval.
Here’s what I think:
Success is relative. Just because it would look good on paper does not mean it feels good.
After all, you should know what you want, not what people want from you.
What Are You Afraid to Admit About Yourself?
What are you scared of the truth being? In my case, I am afraid of failure and trying things outside my comfort zone — that is, I’m not good enough. And that is what keeps me from checking meaningless boxes instead of receiving what I really want.
You probably have something like that too. That’s the thing you realize deep down but cannot quite face yet.
Be honest:
What fear is that keeps you slowing down?
Until you accept this, you will just continue filling your life with distractions.
Wrapping It Up
You’re doing so much. But are you doing them right?
I find myself in this situation, where everything appears to be moving but nothing actually changes. This is a trap.
Spend some time and ask yourself a few tough questions:
What am I avoiding?
Am I staying comfortable instead of forcing myself to grow?
Are they my dreams, or someone else’s?
